How to Connect Your Domain to Wix

How to Connect Your Domain to Wix

If you built your website on Wix and want to use your own domain (for example yourdomain.com), you need to configure your domain's DNS to point to Wix's servers. There are two methods to do this:

Method What does it do? Keeps email at Webzi?
Option A: Change nameservers Moves all DNS control to Wix (website, email, subdomains) ❌ No
Option B: Modify DNS records Only points the website to Wix, everything else stays at Webzi ✅ Yes

ℹ️ Recommendation: If you use email with your domain at Webzi (or any other service like subdomains), use Option B to avoid affecting those services.

Option A: Change nameservers to Wix

This method transfers all DNS control to Wix. It's the simplest approach, but it means email, subdomains, and any other DNS services will also be managed from Wix.

⚠️ Important: When you change nameservers, the email configured at Webzi will stop working unless you configure the corresponding MX records within the Wix panel.

Steps:

  1. Log in to My Webzi.
  2. Go to Domains and select the domain you want to connect to Wix.
  3. Click on Nameservers.
  4. Select "Use custom nameservers" and enter the following values:
Nameserver Value
Nameserver 1 ns0.wixdns.net
Nameserver 2 ns1.wixdns.net
  1. Save the changes.

This change can take between 24 and 48 hours to fully propagate.

This method only points the website to Wix, keeping email and other DNS services working normally at Webzi.

Step 1: Access the DNS Zone Editor

  1. Log in to cPanel (usually at https://yourdomain.com/cpanel).
  2. Search for and select Zone Editor.
  3. Choose the domain you want to connect to Wix.

Step 2: Configure the A record (root domain)

Find the existing A record for the root domain and edit it with the following values:

Field Value
Type A
Name @ or yourdomain.com
Value / Points to 185.230.63.171
TTL 120 (or the default value)

Step 3: Configure the CNAME record (www subdomain)

Find the www CNAME record and edit it. Wix allows two options for this record:

Field Value
Type CNAME
Name www
Value / Points to www.yourdomain.com.wixdns.com
TTL 120 (or the default value)

ℹ️ Example: If your domain is mystore.com, the CNAME value would be www.mystore.com.wixdns.com

Connect the domain in Wix

Once the DNS is configured (either with Option A or B), you need to add the domain in your Wix account to complete the connection:

  1. Log in to your Wix account.
  2. Go to Settings → Domains.
  3. Click Connect a domain you already own.
  4. Enter your domain and follow the instructions.
  5. Wix will automatically verify that the DNS records are pointing correctly.

You can check Wix's official guide here: Connecting a Domain to Wix Using Nameservers.

Propagation time

DNS record changes can take anywhere from a few minutes to 48 hours to propagate globally. During this period, it is normal for the domain to work intermittently.

Records summary (Option B)

Type Name Value TTL
A @ or yourdomain.com 185.230.63.171 120
CNAME www www.yourdomain.com.wixdns.com 120
