How to Transfer Your Domain Away from Webzi

How to Transfer Your Domain Away from Webzi

If you need to move your domain from Webzi to another registrar (domain provider), you can do so at any time by performing an outgoing transfer. This process requires you to prepare your domain from your My Webzi panel, and then the new registrar will initiate the transfer request from their side.

In this guide, we'll walk you through the prerequisites and steps to complete the process.

Before you begin

Before starting the transfer, keep the following in mind:

  • The domain must be at least 60 days old since registration or its last transfer (ICANN policy).

  • The domain must not be expired. If it has expired, you'll need to renew it before transferring.

  • You must have access to your My Webzi account (https://my.webzi.mx).

  • You must have access to the administrative contact's email address for the domain, as you may receive a confirmation email to approve the transfer.

  • You must have an active account with the new registrar where you want to transfer your domain.

ℹ️ Important: Outgoing transfers do not generate refunds for the remaining registration time at Webzi. The new registrar will typically charge you for 1 year of renewal as part of the transfer process.

Steps to transfer your domain away from Webzi

Step 1: Log in to My Webzi

Open your browser and go to https://my.webzi.mx. Sign in with your email address and password.

ℹ️ Tip: If you forgot your password, you can recover it using the "Forgot your password?" link on the login page.

Step 2: Go to the Domains section

Once inside your panel, you have two options:

a) In the side menu, click on "Domains"

b) Or go directly to: https://my.webzi.mx/clientarea.php?action=domains

Step 3: Select your domain

You'll see a list of all your registered domains. Locate the domain you want to transfer and click the green "Active" icon next to the domain name. This will take you to the domain management page.

Step 4: Disable the Registrar Lock

In the left sidebar of the domain management page, you'll find the "Management" section. Click on "Registrar Lock" and make sure it is disabled. If it shows as "Locked," click to unlock it.

ℹ️ Important: If the domain is locked, the new registrar won't be able to initiate the transfer, and it will be automatically rejected.

Step 5: Get the EPP code (Auth Code)

On the same domain management page, look for the "Get EPP Code" option under the "Management" section. When you click it, the code will be sent to the registrant contact's email address or displayed directly on screen, depending on the domain extension.

This code is essential for the new registrar to process the transfer. Copy it and keep it in a safe place.

ℹ️ Tip: If you can't find the option to get the EPP code, or if your domain extension requires a special process, contact us at soporte@webzi.mx and we'll provide it for you.

Step 6: Start the transfer at the new registrar

Log in to your new registrar's panel, look for the "Transfer domain" option, and enter:

  • Your domain name.

  • The EPP code (Auth Code) you obtained from Webzi.

Complete the payment at the new registrar according to their instructions.

Step 7: Approve the transfer

You may receive a confirmation email at the domain's administrative contact email address to approve the outgoing transfer. If you receive it, click the approval link to speed up the process.

If you don't receive any email, the transfer will be processed automatically within the established timeframe.

Transfer time

The outgoing transfer process can take between 1 and 7 days depending on the domain extension and how quickly you approve the confirmation emails. If approved promptly from both sides, the transfer can be completed in a matter of hours.

ℹ️ Note: During the transfer process, your website and email will continue to work normally as long as the DNS are not modified.

Recommendations

📝 Write down your current DNS

Before starting the transfer, take note of your domain's current nameservers. Some registrars may change the DNS automatically upon completing the transfer, which could temporarily affect your website or email.

📧 Verify your contact email

Make sure the administrative and registrant contact email is up to date and that you have access to it, as approval emails will be sent to that address.

⏰ Don't wait until the last minute

Start the transfer at least 2 weeks before your domain's expiration date to prevent it from expiring during the process.

🔒 Remember to re-lock if you cancel

If for any reason you decide not to complete the transfer, remember to re-enable the "Registrar Lock" from your My Webzi panel to protect your domain against unauthorized transfers.
