How to Transfer Your Domain to Webzi

How to Transfer Your Domain to Webzi

Transferring your domain to Webzi allows you to centralize the management of your hosting, email, and domain services in one place. An incoming transfer consists of moving your domain from your current registrar (the provider where it is registered) to Webzi as the new registrar.

In this guide, we'll walk you through the prerequisites and steps to complete the transfer from your My Webzi client panel.

Before you begin

Before starting the transfer, make sure you meet the following requirements:

  • The domain must be at least 60 days old since registration or its last transfer (ICANN policy).

  • The domain must be unlocked at your current registrar (disable the "Registrar Lock" or "Transfer Lock").

  • You must have the domain's EPP code (Auth Code). This code is provided by your current registrar and serves as an authorization password for the transfer.

  • The domain must not be expired. If it has expired, you'll need to renew it first with your current registrar.

  • You must have access to the administrative contact's email address for the domain, as you will receive a confirmation email to approve the transfer.

ℹ️ Important: Transferring a domain to Webzi automatically renews the domain for 1 additional year from its current expiration date.

Steps to transfer your domain to Webzi

Step 1: Prepare your domain at your current registrar

Log in to your current registrar's management panel and do the following:

  • Disable the transfer lock (Registrar Lock / Transfer Lock).

  • Obtain the EPP code (Auth Code). It's usually found in the domain management section, or you can request it from your current provider's support team.

  • Verify that the administrative contact email is up to date and that you have access to it.

Step 2: Start the transfer at Webzi

You have two options to start the transfer:

a) Go to https://my.webzi.mx/cart.php?a=add&domain=transfer&language=English&currency=2 and enter your domain name.

b) Or from your My Webzi panel, go to Domains → Transfer a domain.

Step 3: Enter the EPP code

Enter your domain name and, when prompted, input the EPP code (Auth Code) you obtained from your current registrar. This code is required to authorize the transfer.

Step 4: Complete the payment

Add the transfer to your cart and complete the payment. The transfer cost includes 1 year of renewal that will be added to your domain's current expiration date.

Step 5: Approve the transfer

Once the payment is processed, you'll receive a confirmation email at the domain's administrative contact email address. Open the email and click the link to approve the transfer.

ℹ️ Tip: Check your inbox and spam folder. If you don't receive the email within 24 hours, contact us to verify the status of your transfer.

Step 6: Wait for confirmation

After approving the transfer, the process completes automatically. You'll receive a confirmation email once the domain is active in your Webzi account.

Transfer time

The transfer process can take between 1 and 7 days depending on the domain extension and how quickly your current registrar responds. Some registrars allow you to speed up the process by approving the transfer immediately from their panel.

ℹ️ Note: During the transfer process, your website and email will continue to work normally as long as the DNS are not modified.

Recommendations

🔒 Enable the lock after the transfer

Once the transfer is complete, we recommend enabling the "Registrar Lock" from the domain management page in My Webzi to prevent unauthorized transfers.

🌐 Don't change DNS during the transfer

To avoid interruptions to your website and email, don't modify the nameservers until the transfer has been completed successfully.

📧 Verify your contact information

After the transfer, review your domain's contact information (registrant, administrative, technical, and billing) to make sure it is correct and up to date from the "Contact Information" section in My Webzi.

⏰ Don't wait until the last minute

We recommend starting the transfer at least 2 weeks before your domain's expiration date to avoid any issues during the process.
