DNS (Domain Name System), also known as nameservers or name servers, are responsible for directing your domain to the server where your website and email are hosted. Changing your DNS is necessary when migrating your site to a different hosting provider, setting up an external service, or simply pointing your domain to a new address.
In this guide, we'll show you how to do it from your My Webzi client panel.
Make sure you have:
Access to your My Webzi account (https://my.webzi.mx)
The domain must be active and registered in your account
The new nameservers you want to configure (provided by your hosting provider or external service)
Open your browser and go to https://my.webzi.mx. Sign in with your email address and password.
ℹ️ Tip: If you forgot your password, you can recover it using the "Forgot your password?" link on the login page.
Once inside your panel, you have two options:
a) In the side menu, click on "Domains"
b) Or go directly to: https://my.webzi.mx/clientarea.php?action=domains
You'll see a list of all your registered domains. Locate the domain you want to modify and click the green "Active" icon next to the domain name. This will take you to the domain management page.
In the left sidebar of the domain management page, you'll find the "Management" section. Click on "Nameservers".
You'll see two available options:
"Use default nameservers" – Automatically sets the Webzi DNS. Select this option if your hosting is with us.
"Use custom nameservers" – Allows you to manually enter the DNS from an external provider. Enter the values in the Nameserver 1, Nameserver 2 fields, etc.
ℹ️ Example: If your hosting is with Webzi, the default nameservers are usually:
ns1.webzi.mx and ns2.webzi.mx
Once you've entered the new nameservers, click the "Change Nameservers" button at the bottom of the form. You'll see a confirmation message indicating that the changes were saved successfully.
After changing your DNS, the changes are not immediate. The DNS propagation process can take between 1 and 48 hours to complete worldwide. During this period, your website may work intermittently.
ℹ️ Tip: You can check your DNS propagation status using free tools like whatsmydns.net or dnschecker.org
🔒 Enable Registrar Lock
We recommend keeping the "Registrar Lock" enabled on your domain. This feature prevents unauthorized transfers. You can enable it from the "Registrar Lock" menu on the same domain management page.
📝 Write down your previous DNS
Before making any changes, take note of your current nameservers. This will allow you to quickly revert the configuration if something doesn't work as expected.
📧 Check your email service
A DNS change can temporarily affect the email service associated with your domain. If you use email with your domain, make sure the MX records are properly configured with the new DNS provider before making the change.
